Dear prospective Newman Sixth students,

I hope that you have had a restful break away from studying and are now ready to start your transition into becoming a Year 12 student at Newman Sixth. We can’t wait to meet you and are really look forward to welcoming you into our community.

To prepare you for September, we would like you to complete one transition task for every subject that you want to study at A Level or Level 3. Every student studies 3 A Levels or equivalent with us, so you must complete at least 3 Transition Tasks. If you want to study Applied Business, Health and Social Care or Applied Science remember that these are worth 2 A Levels, so you only complete 2 Transition Tasks in total.

These Transition Tasks have been designed and created by your A Level teachers specifically for you to help you start to understand what each subject involves and bridge the gap between GCSE and A Level. By doing these, it will allow you to see if you really like that subject and want to study it for the next 2 years. If you are not sure on your final choices, then maybe have a go at more than 3 Transition Tasks, to see which sort of knowledge you prefer learning about.

On each Transition Task you will see a compulsory section which is due the first week in September, along with multiple wider reading tasks. We would expect motivated and dedicated students to attempt all wider reading tasks on the Transition Tasks to ensure that you are 100% ready for your study in September. If you have any questions, you can contact the teacher using the email address on the Transition Task.

The Transition Tasks can be found here, or through the Students tab: http://newman6th.co.uk/year-11-to-year-12-tasks

Typically we would have had our annual ‘Induction Days’ on the 23rd and 24th of June this year, you can watch my Induction Day Assembly live recording here:

If you are still not quite sure which subjects to take in September, I would highly recommend that you watch the recorded and narrated taster lessons from subject teachers, which you can find here: http://newman6th.co.uk/year-11-to-year-12-taster-lessons

I would strongly advise that you have a look at these lessons to see if you like the content to help you better choose your options with us in September.

I hope that you enjoy cracking on with the Transition Tasks and I look forward to meeting you all soon. Best wishes,

Miss Shelley Blackbird  ||  Head of Sixth Form
